While avialability is not great, it's gotten significantly better since Christmas and looks promising. It seems to be a quality product top to bottom.- Local availabilty of k-cup varieties.
We love it.Pros:- Virtually NO cleanup- Available coffee flavors are numerous- More and more local stores are carrying a larger variety of k-cups (Wal-Mart, Sears, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc)- Quick and easy with NO wasted coffee- Everyone gets their favorite flavor of coffee, again with no waste.- The three different brew sizes makes it easy to adjust the strength and amount.- Removable platform for filling travel mugs.- Available reusable coffee filter attachment means we're not limited to k-cup flavors or availability. I bought a model B60 for the family for Christmas.
With that said, there is nothing about the brewer that feels cheap. We keep a bag of our favorite ground coffee on hand in case we run out of k-cups and can't get more for a few days.Cons:- Can take some time to determine brew sizes and strengths to suite your tastes (not a big "con" in my book)- Wish the reservior was a bit larger but it's not bad at all.- Price of the brewing system and k-cups.
It's not outrageous, but prices could be better. Caveat: I live in a more rural area near a smaller city.
Those living in more metropolitan areas should have no problem finding reasonably priced coffee.
I cannot recommend this machine since the quality control is apparently lacking.3/17/10 UPDATE: I was able to exchange the defective machine for a working model at Target. I selected the medium cup setting and although the output was a little less than I expected, it was tasty. I removed the k-cup and closed the lid planning to run just water through the machine to measure the output, but the machine shut off by itself after chugging and displaying "Not Ready" in the display for several minutes. Had Keurig been willing to overnight a replacement for their defective product, I may have been willing to give it another chance, but I'm not willing to spend this kind of money on a defective product and then have to wait a week or more without coffee for them to use the cheapest shipping method available to them.Unfortunately, I should have taken the negative reviews more seriously. I'll try to update again in a few months after the newness/novelty has worn off.I would recommend this machine to people who like the idea of brewing each cup of coffee individually, like to drink a variety of blends, and prefer the convenience of using the k cups. setting with a single k cup as this wouldn't fill the travel mug anyway and I'm afraid it would be too watered down. The guy who answered took all my information and had me go through the steps again while on the line, with the same results. My wife tried to make a cup of tea and decided that it was not hot enough for her even though I am using the 192 degree temperature setting.
She stated that she will forgo the convenience to boil water the old fashion way, in a pot on the stove, rather than use this machine. travel mugs for the commute to work, so it takes two k cups on the 8 oz. I've upgraded my rating to reflect the fact that the working model preforms as advertised. Once again, after several minutes instead of "Ready to Brew" the machine just shut off.
I told him that this was totally unacceptable and would be returning the machine to Target. The only reason I called customer service in the first place is because this was the only Special Edition my local Target had on the shelf and I knew that I would not be able to get a replacement at the store. After unplugging and plugging the machine back in and trying a couple of more times without success, I called the Customer Service line. Following this, I brewed my first cup with one of the included k-cups. I have 16 oz. I unpacked it and followed the "Getting started guide" to run a small cup of water through the machine with no coffee. One of my sons, the one who is also a coffee drinker, loves the thing though. After apologizing, the rep offered to send me a replacement machine; however, when I asked how long this would take since I would be without a coffee maker in the interim, I was informed that it would take 3 - 7 business days.
I've been putting the machine through it's paces and trying the various sample k cups that came with it. It's still faster to run two cycles back to back than my old coffee maker. I just bought a Special Edition at Target one hour ago. setting to fill it. I haven't been willing to try the 10 oz. I also picked up a My K Cup reusable filter with the intent of using it with my regular ground coffee most of the time and just keeping some k cups around for special occasions, but I've read some horror stories about the My K Cup as well.
I have to admit that with a working machine, it makes a great cup of coffee. I'm hesitant to give it too high a score considering the number of other people that have had problems and the fact that I've only had it for two days now. I turned the machine back on and again was greeted by the chugging noise and the "Not Ready" words in the display. Needless to say, I haven't tried the My K Cup out yet.My original 1 star rating was entirely due to the frustration of having such an expensive purchase malfunction within the first hour. Turns out they had a few more in the back of the store. I now have several variety packs on order.
You can't beat the convenience of the prepackaged k cups and after tasting some of the gourmet coffees that came in the sample pack, it's going to be hard to go back to Folger's. Just be aware that if you have a problem, while customer service might be willing to replace your machine, it won't be quick, so have a back up coffee maker just in case.
Everyone drinks something different. Also, our mug never seems to be full.It is very easy to make this, and it is quick clean up. Once we got it home and used it, we were disappointed.
Some of us drink hot tea. The hot cocoa does not taste as good as when we make it the old fashioned way (milk and hot cocoa on the stove in a pot). Some of us drink hot cocoa.
The tea doesn't taste as good as when I brew it the old fashioned way. Some of us drink regualr coffee, while others drink de-caf. So, we were excited to purchase a Keurig machine.
So, mostly, we were disappointed in the taste. However, the taste just isn't for us.
Mine constantly is having glitches. I demineralized it as per instructions using vinegar and that didn't work either. I received this machine as a Christmas present. I've followed all directions to reset the machine - unplug the unit, reset the water tank, etc but it doesn't work. Bottom line: If it works its great and their customer service is wonderful, BUT there are some serious bugs that need to be worked out. Most of the time it will heat the water up but switches itself off before it brews the cup. This is regardless of the size of cup chosen.
They have sent me a replacement machine so I'm hoping it works. When it brews it is great but the hitch is getting the dang thing to work. I finally called customer service and I have to say they were exceptional. This is a constant problem that I don't have time to mess around with all morning as I'm trying to get to work. Recently, on the rare occassions it does brew, it will brew a tiny amount then its done. They told me this unit has had a lot of problems and after doing a lot of research online it does indeed seem these problems are quite common. Given the cost of this machine, it should not have all these issues.
I was a little concerned about the water in the reservoir becoming stale, but we drink too much coffee for that to be an issue. Of course we had a coffee machine before, but it was a big hassle to get it going, or someone would forget to throw out the filter, so over a week or so it starts to be alive. But Keurig has licensed their cup system, so lots of different ones out there; you're not locked into one manufacturer. No more. There's probably a right sequence, but I don't have a manual, and its no big deal.I was originally very skeptical about these 1 cup machines. The concept looked a lot like these ink printers to me: buy a cheap printer, but then you're stuck with really expensive ink cartridges. We have a small company, and I thought I do something good for morale and get one of these machines (Keurig B60).I bought it used, and our staff and I love it. They never seemed to rinse the coffee can when done, or turn off the machine, so you're stuck with burned in coffee.
Highly recommended for that reason alone. One less star from perfect: Our machine makes a louder noise when it starts a cycle: the pump starts getting water into the heating chamber, and that motor makes the drip catcher shake, which is louder than I prefer. nasty. Takes a few sec, but still. The 50 pack cups on Amazon so far go as low as sixteen and some dollar, great. Nearly foolproof to use - I admit I never read the manual - but you sometimes have to lift the filter holder arm to get the cup size light to blink so you can make your selection. The other things is of course that everyone gets their own version of coffee now - I bought the carousel thing for twenty some dollars, keep some decaf, breakfast blend, french roast, and whatever is on sale handy, and the staff and I love it.
I like that. That's 32c per cup, very competitive. Plus with the 3 different cup sizes you can choose how strong you want it. That drip catcher is not really attached to the machine, so it can be easily removed should it be required to be emptied, but that means it is loose and can rattle easily due to vibrations by the various pumps.I plan on putting a little carpet thing under the machine, or a rubber pad, to see if that stops it; right now its on top of a counter and rattles easily.
